Volunteering at Lake Travis High School is a unique, rewarding and insightful experience. The students are growing more independent, preparing for college and the decision-making that comes with it. The teachers don't need our help in the classrooms or on field trips anymore. So, how can you, as an engaged parent, donate your time to our campus?
The easiest way is to keep an eye on our weekly PTO e-News. We receive volunteer requests from campus administrators and other campus organizations on a regular basis. We include descriptions, electronic sign-ups (if available), and/or contact information so you can pick and choose what works for you. With each visit you make to campus to volunteer, the buildings get "smaller" and "more familiar". And while you probably won't see your student, you will get a sense for what your student experiences on a daily basis. And while they may not express it out loud, your student will appreciate knowing you are there.
The campus team DEFINITELY appreciates volunteers. They generally request help during Round-Up in early August, Book Room support the first week of school, and hallway monitors during testing periods (PSAT/STAAR) in October, December, March and May. We sometimes get special requests from specific departments as well, such as helping to sell Prom tickets during lunch periods (April). There is no better way to get a "feel" for our campus environment than to be immersed in it for an hour or two.
And last but not least, your PTO LOVES (and needs!) VOLUNTEERS like you. We post volunteer opportunities that help us to execute our regular campus programs, including the Homecoming Parade, the Halloween costume contest, the Talent Show, and grade-level specific Teacher Appreciation Week. We also depend on volunteers to staff two important and short-term committees each year - the Audit Committee (May through July) and the Nominations Committee (February through early April). Most importantly, we have Executive Board positions and Committee Chair positions that we recruit for each year.
Without parents willing to serve in these roles, our PTO would not be as FUN, RELIABLE, and HELPFUL as it is.
